Coping with the USAID Changes

Considering how far and wide the ongoing changes within USAID are sweeping, someone you know may already have been touched very personally by them.

People that you know are probably going to lose their jobs, if they have not lost them already.

The most unwise thing that you can do in this season is run away from your friends just because they no longer have work. I say unwise because it is entirely illogical to assume that your unemployed friends will remain unemployed forever.

Obviously, friendship is dynamic and there are many things to consider in making the choice to keep a friend, but the driving spirit behind this write-up is the fact that too many relationships needlessly collapse during periods like this. The trend of friends leaving others in times of need is far too common.

The goal of this write-up is to encourage you, maybe even challenge you to remain present and be intentional in staying with your friends. This period does not last one’s lifetime, but only a while.

Additionally, actively learn to adjust your value scales so that you assess and esteem people based on such timeless attributes as their character, value system, and the total combination of their experiences, personality traits, and passions that make them uniquely them. People are far more valuable than their money, titles and fame.

Finally, if you have been affected by the ongoing changes in USAID or other work-related changes elsewhere that have caused you to be in between jobs, be encouraged. It really does get better. There is no contrary truth to this.

May God bless and preserve you during this season.
