Last night, renowned Ugandan film director, Loukman Ali stirred up excitement in the film community after dropping a few camera frames from his latest project. The shots immediately caught attention for their striking image composition, meticulous lighting, and thoughtful framing best known for Loukman’s signature style.
The five images came with a short but telling caption:
“I recently started filming my feature. It’s been wild so far a few scenes down, so many more to go, but we’re moving.”
From the stills, it’s evident that Loukman’s creative bond with actor Michael Wawuyo Jnr remains solid, as he returns to work with him on this new feature. The cast also boasts Allan Kutos Katongole (from Sanyu), Bakka Derrick (from Beloved), Rukiss Salameda, and Ssegujja Michael, but also the film will have Philip Luswata, Pascal Takodi, Brenda Wairimu, Natasha Sinayobye promising a dynamic on-screen lineup.
Known for previous projects like ‘The Girl in the Yellow Jumper’, ‘Sixteen Rounds’ and more, Loukman has built a reputation for crafting films that go beyond storytelling but rather deliver experiences. However, despite critical acclaim and glowing reviews, Loukman often admits he is never truly satisfied with his work, a perfectionism that might just be the secret to his continued growth and innovation.
I have reached out to Loukman and he has informed me that the film is called ‘THE CAKE WALK” and it’s from a script he wrote to be shot slowly in bits as a low budget self funded project because the story can’t be affected by continuity changes.
The release date for the film is not yet confirmed but Hands up if you can’t wait for Loukman Ali’s next serving!
