MY KAKWA CULTURE

http://Live%20shoot

In the sun-kissed savannas of Northern Uganda,Southern south sudan and some parts of congo, the kakwa people have lived for generations. The Kakwa grand father called Jaki was believed to have originated from a hill called Karobe in south sudan and settled at Mountain Liru in koboko district in Uganda with his twelve children who moved along the northern region entering Congo and some back to south sudan that contributed to their being an international tribe.

With the portrayal of unity, the kakwa call themselves “Kakwa Salia Musala” identified by a unique tree that stands at the border of uganda, Congo and Southern South Sudan. My kakwa culture,  rich in tradition and resilience since from ancestral, have made us have a woven tapestry of stories, customs ,dressings, songs, and dances, which reflect our pure connection to our culture and tradition.

In the past, the Kakwa people lived in harmony with the natural world, including plants and animals. They coexist as humanity with their livelihood orbiting around farming and herding. They developed a complex system of leadership with clan leaders called “Mataki” who guided their clans called “ketimito” in their language with wisdom and integrity. Their social fabric was woven from a  very strong family ties with much respect to elders whom they call “temezi” in their language and deep sense of community.

In the present, kakwa youth are embracing the heritage of our culture by learning traditional songs, dances, publishing stories on the uniqueness of our culture. With technology, they are also innovating. The kakwa women are leading initiatives to promote economic empowerment through small scale saving groups while the men are working to preserve their ancestral lands called “melesingo” in the language.

As we look to the future, we are determined to preserve our cultural legacy while embracing prosperity. We envision a future where our culture is celebrated, our language is spoken by future generations and our community is strong and resilient.

The kakwa culture is a testament to the power of culture and tradition. As we recognize and honor their heritage, we are reminded of promoting cultural diversity.
