The portraits in our living room
look down on us
staring with distrustful eyes
even when they smile
I see the sneers on their faces
Do they see lingering caresses
our whispered promises
or the silent battle in our eyes
unspoken oaths of revenge
the seeping rage of betrayal
slithering struggling to consume us
I know their disdain is for us
because in this home
a place meant to be filled with love
keeps splintering with our hypocrisy
and the portraits in our living room
are very angry spectators
