The Meat Market

The sizzle of flesh, the hunger in the eyes. It’s a primal scene, as old as time. But in this modern age, the meat market has taken on a sinister twist. It’s no longer just about sustenance; it’s a grotesque spectacle, a perversion of desire.

World AIDS Day, a solemn reminder of a global health crisis, is juxtaposed with the lurid reality of the live sex trade. The human body, reduced to mere meat, is displayed and consumed with reckless abandon. A chilling echo of the past, when the disease ravaged communities, leaving scars that still run deep.

The meat was tough, fatty, hard to chew. But it was something, after days of wanting, of needing. Still, you think, because December was so young, so innocent, she would be easier to chew. Because there was electricity in the air back then, music playing so loud you couldn’t hear what you think.

Every pretty girl seemed like a prize to every young man with fresh meat in his eyes. Of course, that was before AIDS cut a generation down. Now only the memories are left to be found.

The parallels are striking. In both cases, the human body is objectified, commodified, and consumed. The desire for pleasure, for connection, is twisted into something dark and destructive. The consequences are far-reaching, both for the individual and for society as a whole.

The meat market, in all its forms, is a symptom of a deeper malaise. It is a reflection of our culture’s obsession with youth, beauty, and power. It is a manifestation of our fear of intimacy, our need for control, and our inability to connect with others on a genuine level.

As we grapple with the legacy of AIDS and the challenges of the present, it is imperative that we confront the darker aspects of our desires. We must acknowledge the harm that is caused when we treat others as objects, rather than as human beings.

We must also recognize the importance of empathy, compassion, and respect. We must strive to create a world where every individual is valued, loved, and protected. A world where the human body is celebrated, not exploited. A world where the meat market is a thing of the past…
